Laser Hair Removal

Removal of unwanted hair has always been a popular cosmetic treatment, and laser hair removal is one of the most straightforward and least uncomfortable methods available for those wanting to remove unwanted hair. Many women and an increasing number of men are now choosing laser hair removal over the shaving kits, waxes and depilatory creams.

Laser hair removal is one of the most widely practiced laser treatments and its effectiveness has been proven by decades of clinical studies. How does it work? During the treatment, a laser is used to heat the follicles that hair grows from. The heat destroys the follicles, removing the hair and preventing it from growing, but the laser doesn't do any harm to the surrounding skin.

In many cases unwanted hair is considered a cosmetic problem. In particular, women often experience additional hair growth during both pregnancy and menopause. Also men of all ages, sizes, ethnicities, and professions are getting rid of their excess body hair. Some diseases also have excessive hair growth as a symptom, but they are less common.

1. What are the traditional methods of hair removal?

Shaving is the most common method but is very time consuming and inconvenient. Tweezing is another alternative but can be very tedious and impractical. Waxing can treat larger areas faster but is hard on the skin. Ripping the hair out by the root distorts the follicle, resulting in ingrown hairs, and sometimes the skin comes off with the hair. All of these methods require constant maintenance and result in only a few days of hair free skin.

2. How is laser hair removal different from other methods of hair removal?

One of the advantages of laser hair removal is treatment speed. It is a long-term solution to a permanent problem. After waxing, tweezing or shaving, the stubble returns very quickly and you only enjoy smooth, hair-free skin for a short time. As for laser treatments, however; the hair sheds within about 10 days after the treatment and you are completely hair-free for a very long time. Of course, you will need to maintain the quality of the outcome by getting maintenance treatments every few months.

3. What areas can be treated with laser hair removal?

The treatment can be used on the face or on any other part of the body including bikini line, under arms, arms, legs, stomach, back, and shoulders. The treatment works best on new hairs that are just starting to grow, which is why you will need several treatments in the same area to deal with all the hairs as they begin their growth cycle.

4. How does laser hair removal work?

The goal is to selectively heat the hair's bulb without damaging the surrounding tissue. The laser emits a beam of near invisible laser light, which passes harmlessly through the skin and is absorbed at the follicular level. After the laser energy is absorbed, it is transformed into heat that damages the dermal papilla and cellular matrix, inhibiting the follicle's ability to produce a darker, permanent hair.

5. How many laser hair removal treatments are necessary?

This is very important to understand. Hair goes through 3 stages. Typically in the anagen stage, the hair will respond more effectively to treatment. At any given time, only one third of human hair is in the anagen stage. For this reason, it is necessary to treat an area at least 6 times with the treatments spaced approximately 4 to 6 weeks apart in order to see the best and longest lasting results.

At Aura Laser Skin Care we use the ELOS technology to remove unwanted hair. ELOS stands for elctro-optical-synergy, and refers to the process of combining radio frequency with laser and light energies to enhance treatment efficacy and safety. Furthermore, our laser is color blind, meaning aside from black hair, it is capable of removing blond, red, and gray hairs on all skin tones.

6. Is laser hair removal safe?

Yes, the procedure is completely safe. At Aura Laser Skin Care your safety is our top priority. Our process is designed to selectively target the melanin in the hair follicle and leave the skin unharmed. After the procedure, you may notice slight pink or red skin in the treated area. The color will most likely fade within a few minutes to a few hours, and in rare cases, a few days.

7. Do laser hair removal treatments hurt?

The laser pulse is often described as a wave of heat with a pinprick or rubber band snapping sensation. It stings a bit, but having your hair torn out by the root as with waxing or tweezing doesn't exactly feel good either. Our customers tolerate it well without any use of anesthetics.

8. What is the cost of the laser hair removal treatment?

Prices vary depending on the area to be treated. The cost of the package will be discussed with you prior to treatments. Aura Laser Skin Care prides itself on having a fixed price list per treatment area. We never employ the "used car lot bargaining approach" like others do, because we simply believe we offer the best treatment and at the most affordable price.
